James Babson immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
James was born in England, perhaps about 1622. He came to New England about 1637 with his brother Richard and their widowed mother Isabel, settling in Salem and Gloucester. Nearly all Babsons in the United States are descendants of James.[1]
"Her (Widow Isabel Babson) son, James, came hither with his mother, and settled near Little Good Harbor. He was a cooper by trade; but he cultivated his land, and left at his death a small farm, which went into the possession of Thomas Witham, who married his daughter. He died Dec 21, 1683...His wife died ..1714 at age 83. Ten children were born..."[2]
