Biography
Thomas George Barrett Lennard was born Douglas, Isle of Mann on 22 September 1842.[1] He was the son of George Barrett-Lennard and Jessie Barrett-Lennard nee Nairne.[2]
He enlisted in the British Army aged 20 years[3] He held the following ranks:
- ensign. 70th Regiment, by purchase, 9 January 1863[4][5]
- lieutenant, 70th regiment, by purchase, 21 November 1865[6]
- exchanged to the 5th Dragoon Guards 22 March 1871[7][8][9]
He served in the New Zealand wars and was awarded the New Zealand medal.[10][11]
He married Edith Mackenzie, daughter of John Mackenzie in 1873.[12] He divoced her in 1903.[13]
They had four children:
- Sir Fiennes Cecil Arthur Barrett-Lennard (2 Apr 1880-26 Jan 1963)
- Aylmer Guy Howard Barrett-Lennard (6 Aug 1881- Mar 1936)
- Dorothy Margaret Ivy Barrett-Lennard (1884-3 Jul 1955)
- Eric Gordon Barrett-Lennard (1886-8 Jun 1950) [14]
He passed away in 1908.
