Note's from Mary B. Lindsay's personal family history:
Josiah Batson [Father] was born at Aldwinkle, Northamptonshire, England December 7, 1803. He was a worker in wool by trade, for which he served an apprenticeship of seven years.
His father, John Batson, was a farmer, owning a small piece of land and a cottage in Thorpston. He followed father with his family to America. His family consisted of three children, Ann Chew Batson born 1800 (she was married to George Wilson) our father, Josiah, and Thomas Chew Batson, a younger brother.
Grandfather [John] lived but a short time in the new country. Grandmother's maiden name was Ann Chew. She outlived Grandfather many years and had her home with her sons. She died at our home in the red house on Westford Hill and was buried beside Grandfather in Springfield.
Josiah Batson and Anna Maria Gross [Parents] were married September 1828 at Caldecott by Rev. Mailam of Higham Ferres, an Episcopal clergyman. They set up their home in Irthlingboro, but the spring following embarked for America. They lived at Springfield, Westfor and Middlefield, near Cooperstown, New York. In 1854 they removed to Wisconsin and lived on a farm in the town of Metomen, two miles from Fairwater. After the farm was sold in 1866, they lived in Ripon. Father [Josiah] spent his last years with Josiah Jr. [his son] at Fairwater. Together they visited their old home and friends in England in 1857 and sold the property left by Grandfather.
Mother [Anna Maria Gross] died February 28, 1867 at Ripon, being 62 years old. Father [Josiah] died April 25, 1874, being 71 years of age. They are buried at Fairwater.
