BIOGRAPHY

William was born on July 25,1836 in Licking Township, Jay County, Indiana and a son of John Beathe and Ann Killough. He severed in the Civil War in Company D, 112th Illinois Infantry. He passed away on November 22, 1908 and buried in the Elizabethtown Cemetery in Elizabethtown, Delaware County, Indiana. [1]

He married Elizabeth Rebecca Stewart on 18 October 1860, in Blackford, Indiana, United States. They were the parents of at least 5 sons. He died on 22 November 1908, in Indiana, United States, at the age of 72, and was buried in Washington Township, Delaware, Indiana, United States.

Several meetings were held and the name was changed to Santa Claus, Indiana. The United States Postal Service granted their application. Due to the name, the post office in Santa Claus continues to receive thousands of letters to Santa Claus from children around the world each December.
