Biography
Mary was born ion 26 February 1861 in Fremantle, Western Australia.[1][2] She is the daughter of John Beatty and Hannah Oringe.
A very old and respected resident, Nurse Beatty, of Palmyra, who was born in Fremantle 75 years ago, died Sunday week last The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the Fremantle Cemetery on Monday, the Rev. Canon E. M. Collick officiating at the graveside, while the funeral arrangements were carried out with dignity by Arthur E. Davies and Co.
The late Miss Mary Ann Jane Beatty, generally known as Nurse Beatty, was the only daughter of Mr and Mrs John Beatty who arrived in Fremantle in 1849. Her father was a chemist in the early days of Fremantle. Nurse Beatty spent several years on the goldfields in the early days of the rush, but the greater part of her life was spent in nursing in Fremantle. She was ever ready to hfelp others and her charitable disposition and kindly nature will be affectionately remembered by her many friends.[3]
