James Beatty is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.
James was born in 1807, the child of James & Maria (Moreau). An experienced seafarer like his father,James Beatty, he was master of the missionary ship Triton on her maiden voyage to Oceana 1839-40. The family settled in the Australian colonies about 1840. At the time of his death in 1862 James was a schoolmaster.
Research notes
Prior to the ending of the plantation system in the mid 1830's, it seems possible he sailed the trade routes between the British Caribbean islands and England. (Reference to Jamaica in Palmer-Beatty marriage notice)
