There are several records of Benton in and near Epping.
- 1499 Common Recovery. John Benton, senior, and others, querents for property in Epping and Great Parndon.[1]
- 1534 Feet of Fines. John Benton and Agnes his wife, and others deforciants, property in Bobyngworth. [2]
- 1535 Feet of Fines. John Benton the younger, and others, querents, property in Eppyng. [3]
- 1550 Will of John Benton the elder of Epping. His sons: Humphrey and John.[4]
- 1552 Grant of manor of Shyngylhall, Essex (in Epping Upland), late of Waltham Abbey, to Henry Parker, knight, in tenure of John Benton.[5]
- 1563 Manor of Shingle Hall conveyed by Henry Parker to John Benton, who was already the tenant.[6]
- 1570 Manor of Shingle Hall to his son Andrew, after death of John Benton.
- 1639 Andrew Benton dies. [7]
