Caroline Birkholz was born about 1819. She was the daughter of Carl Birkholz and Anna Schwan, as she is named in both of their burial records as a surviving daughter.
She married a Schmidt (blacksmith) Carl Nax in 1842 in Mühlen, Kreis Osterode, East Prussia[1]. He passed away in December 1848 in Ludwigsdorf.
She married for a second time after her first husband’s passing to Adam Rapkowitz in 1850. They had at least one child, Ferdinand in 1855.
In 1857, Caroline and Adam are living in Klein Czerlin, a residence/farm near Marwalde[2], per her mother‘s burial record[3], and her husband is identified as a Köllmer (coal miner). It appears they stay there for several years as her daughter Amalie is called a resident of Klein Czerlin on her marriage record in 1864 in Marwalde Parish.
Research Notes
Caroline‘s second husband Adam Rapkowitz died in 1895 in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine Westphalia, Germany, per his civil death record, and it identifies his wife as the former Caroline Nacks; it appears to say she was vorstorben (deceased) at the time, so she may have died before 1895[4]. It also has Kreis Marienwerder near her name, so she may have died there. Her daughter Amalie died in Kreis Marienwerder in 1927, as did her son-in-law August Kaisler in 1926, so there is evidence for relatives moving there.
