The Late Mr. B. Blechynden [1]
The death occurred on May 19 of Benjamin Harrison Blechynden at his home at Glentullock, about 14 miles from Bridgetown, at the age of 78 years.
He was the eldest of two sons of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Blechynden, of Glenpennant, Manjimup, and was born in Bunbury in 1874. There were also nine daughters in the family.
The deceased farmed on his father's property and in 1904 married at Dingup Bertha Mary Giblett, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Giblett, pioneer's of the Warren district. Then he took up land at Glentullock, where he remained
ever since. His wife predeceased him 14 years ago. Glentullock was well known
for sheep raising. Mr. Blechynden was a great advocate for district progress and always worked to achieve that end, but he did not take a prominent part in public life. He had been ailing for some time. He is survived by two sons and three daughters.
The funeral took place on Wednesday last, when the remains were interred in the Anglican portion of the Balbarrup Cemetery, near Manjimup, alongside those of his wife.
The Rev. A. H. Tassell performed the graveside service, which was attended by representatives of most of the pioneer families of the Bridgetown and Manjimup districts.
The pall bearers were Messrs. Leo Wheatley, O. J. Sparks, Kent Smith and W. Wheatley.
