Born in Northern Ireland, Scotland, North Carolina, or Mississippi.

A page posted by "Jason G Stewart of North Little Rock, AR" has his birth in Mississippi in 1750, son of William Bowles, and marriage to Martha Jane Elder in North Carolina about 1768 (daughter of Matthew Elder and Mary Kincannon). It lists son "William Griffin Bolls, Sr." as born in Apr 1783, in Opelousas, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana (died Oct 1843, Hempstead Co, Arkansas).^[2]

His DAR record - under the spelling "Bowles" - has his birth in 1752 in North Carolina, residence in Mecklenburg County. No wife is named but two children are listed: John C. (married Elizabeth Smiley) and Wilson (married Rebecca Irwin/Erwin).^[3]

His Find a Grave memorial shows his birth in Northern Ireland, in 1745, but text implies that he was born in Scotland:^[1]

"Emigrates from Ulster Scotland about 1768 living in the Yadkin Valley (Jersey Settlement), Rowan Co., NC. After marriage to Martha they move to Jefferson Co., MS in 1777."^[1]

The memorial includes text from an article with information about John Bolls - that he was an elder in the Hopewell church in North Carolina, "a member of the Mecklenburg Resolves and a soldier during the Revolution".^[1]

Also from his memorial: "While unmarked his burial is said to be in the Bolls Cemetery, Claiborne Co., MS since he died while at his son's (Matthew) home per the Bolls Family Book by Cathy Straley."^[1]

Jason Stewart's page, DAR, and the Find a Grave memorial have his death in Mississippi on 26 June 1831. Stewart and DAR say he died in Jefferson County.^[2] The memorial says he was buried in Matthew Bolls Graveyard, Alcorn, Claiborne County.^[1]
