Other names for Johann were Jacob Boon and Johann Jacob Boone. According to German naming customs, Johann Jacob Boon was known all his life as Jacob.

He was a passenger on the Francis and Elizabeth sailing from Rotterdam, arriving in Philadelphia on Sept 21, 1742. The spelling of the last name was done at this time. It was spelled both Boon and Boone after arriving in Guilford County, NC where the Boon's of Daniel Boone fame were located.
