Martha Jane Boothe was born in 1835 in Virginia, United States, daughter of John Boothe (1804–1865) and Mary Elizabeth Parks (1804–1875).

Martha (18) married Thomas Beard (19) (born in 1834 in Virginia; son of Thomas Beard and Mary Seawright) on July 11, 1854 in Carroll, Tennessee, USA. Their children were:
