Sarah Bothwell was born in Ireland.

Birth
Sarah Bothwell was born on 26 April 1868 in Moydalgan Townland in the parish of Dromara in County Down, Ireland. She was the daughter of John Bothwell, a shoemaker, and Mary Ann Carlisle. Her birth was registered in the Lisburn registration district. ^{[1] [2]} Sarah was baptized in Annahilt, County Down. ^[3] Sarah had at least five siblings.

In 1892, Sarah was a witness at the marriage of her sister Maggie Bothwell to Charles Augustus Hammond, an assistant in a tea store. They were married in the Belmont Presbyterian Church in the parish of Holywood in County Down (Belfast).

Belfast
In the 1901 Ireland Census, Sarah, listed as age 24, was living at 33 Ribble Street in Belfast. She was living with her parents and her unmarried siblings. She was working as a seamstress. Curiously, all the family members were recorded as significantly younger than their true (sourced) ages. ^[4]

In the 1911 Ireland Census, Sarah, listed as age 31, was still living at 33 Ribble Street in Belfast. She was with her parents and her brother Samuel. She was working as a machinist in a wareroom. ^[5]

Death of parents
Sarah's father John Bothwell died from senile decay and cardiac failure on 26 August 1915. On her father's death record, he was listed as a 74-year-old married shoemaker, residing at 33 Ribble Street in Belfast. Sarah's brother Alfred Bothwell, also of 33 Ribble Street was present at their father's death and was the informant for his death record.

Sarah's mother Mary Ann Bothwell died from bronchitis and cardiac failure on 17 October 1920. On her mother's death record, she was listed as the 73-year-old widow of John Bothwell, a shoemaker, residing at 33 Ribble Street in Belfast. Sarah's brother Alfred Bothwell, also of 33 Ribble Street, was in attendance and was the informant for the death record.

Research Notes
