Biography

Birth and life

Rodney was born on 8 June 1784 in Sumner Township, Guilford, North Carolina. He married Tricy Harris on 19 Nov 1807 in Rockingham, North Carolina. [citation needed] According to the gravestone he shares with his wife, they had 17 children. There are only records for 15 children so far, so two of them may have died at birth or very young. He was a veteran of the War of 1812 serving as a private in Capt George Cloud and Capt Thomas M Nelson's Companies of the 10th U S Infantry. The 10th was made up of men from North Carolina. He enlisted on Oct 10, 1812 and was discharged April 9, 1814.[1] According to his wife's obituary, Rodney died of an anaphylactic reaction to a bee sting while eating a honey comb, leaving her with only an $8 per month pension for his War of 1812 service.

Death and Burial

Rodney died on 15 Feb 1835 in Du Quoin, Perry, Illinois. He was buried in the Old Du Quoin Cemetery in rural Perry County.[2]
