Emily was born in 1873 in Wilnecote, Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom and was the daughter of Robert Brain and Frances Helena Brain. Her birth was registered^[1][2][3][4]during the first quarter of 1873 in the district of Tamworth, Staffordshire, England.

In the 1881 census Emily (age about 8) was living in Nether Whitacre, Warwickshire, England. Relationship to Head: Granddaughter.^[4]

In the 1891 census Emily (age about 18) was living in Harborne, Staffordshire, England. Relation to Head: Servant.^[5]

When Emily was about 24 she married Alfred George Hiscock in 1897 in Tamworth, Staffordshire, England. The couple had 4 children: Alfred Robert Carl Hiscock Payne, Hector Roy Hiscock Payne, Millicent Gertrude Hiscock Payne and Alan Gordon Hiscock Payne.^[6][7]
