Biography

Colonel Christopher Brazee served in the United States Civil War.

Christopher Brazee was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Post 1, Rockford, Illinois.

Christopher was born in 1832. He was the son of Andrew Brazee and Sally Washburn.

He joined his brother's law firm in Wilson, New York. In 1856 he joined an engineer corps and worked in Iowa until 1858 when he came to Rockford and worked for the law firm Miller and Taylor. He later opened his own law firm.[1]


In 1860 he was living with William Cain’s family. [2]

He married Lydia Holmes in 1861. [3]

They had the following children:

  1. Mary Elizabeth Brazee 1869–1947
  2. Katherine Lilian Brazee 1872–1925
  3. Caroline Louise (Goodspeed) 1874–1941
  4. Martin Holmes Brazee 1877–1912

In August 1862 he joined the 74th Regiment, Illinois Infantry, Company C. He mustered in as a First Lieutenant. In April 1863 he was promoted to Captain and was assigned to duty on General Rosecran's staff as assistant quartermaster of the Army of the Cumberland. He resigned due to ill health December 1863. He later served as Colonel of the National Guards.

After the war he resumed a busy law practice with an office over the Winnebago Bank in Rockford. [7][8]

Lydia died of cancer in 1883. In 1884 he married Caroline Potter. [9]

Christopher passed away in 1886. [10][11]
