Biography

The daughter of Thomas Michael Bright (1855-1935) and Mariah Texas Phillips (1865-1951), Gladys Bright was born in Washington College, Tennessee[1]in 1907, residing there with her mother and her siblings,[2][3] after her parents' divorce. Gladys had one sister, Bonnabelle Joslyn Bright (1905-1979). In 1930, Gladys lived in District 12 of Greene County, Tennessee, lodging in the home of James and Pearl Self while working as a high school teacher.[4]

Gladys Bright married Rex Blanton (1908-2000), the son of Martin Aubrey Blanton and Alice Eliza Bullington, marrying around 1930, but soon divorcing. In 1940, Gladys lived with her sister, who had married, and her family, residing in Greeneville, Tennessee and teaching at the local high school.[5] Gladys remarried in 1942, marrying Cornelius Cabbage, who had lost his wife the year before. Cornelius Cabbage died of a heart attack the next year, at the age of 49.

By 1950, Gladys lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, lodging with five others at in widow Kate Boyd's home and working as an English teacher at a Knox County public school.[6] Gladys remarried in 1957, marrying Curtis L. Rogers (1903-1970), the son of William Franklin Rogers and Helen Medora Anderson, marrying in Bradley County, Tennessee on August 16, 1957.[7] Curtis Rogers had been married previously to Caroline Callahan.

Gladys Curtis passed away in Knoxville, Tennessee[8] at the age of 77 and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery there.[9]
