Margaret Brown, oldest daughter of Jacob Brown, wagonmaker, and his wife, Elizabeth, was b. about 1758 in Rowan Cty., N. C.; the date of her death is not known. She was buried in the family cemetery, Washington County, Tn., where her father was buried. In Rowan County she was married to Conrad Starnes, 16 Sep 1778. Her brother George was the bondsman. According to the files of the late Charles Bennett, genealogist, of Washington County, Tn., Conrad Starnes was a private in Capt. William Campbell's Company at the Point Pleasant Campaign, 1774, in Washington County, Virginia. In 1790, Conrad and family were living in Mecklenburg County, N. C. (1 male over 10, 3 males under 16, 5 females). It is believed that Conrad died about 1796. The widow, Margaret, her brother Abraham, and brother-in-law Adam Sliger sold their portions of property inherited from their father to their brother David, 24 Sep 1808. To begin the new year of 1802, Margaret was received into the Cherokee Baptist Church in Washington County, along with Jesse Starnes, Rachel Starnes, Polly Salts, Isaac Brown, Nancy Brown, Mary Murr, and Solomon Brown.
