Biography
6 Apr 1801 - Simeon weds Mary Fox with Ephraim Broyles as security. Greene Co., Tenn.[1]
Simeon grew up on Horse Creek in Greene County, Tenn., and is living there in 1806, but he moved to neighboring Washington Co. shortly thereafter.[2]
9 Oct 1807 - Simon Broyles is security for the marriage of his sister Grace. Washington Co., Tenn.[3]
24 Mar 1817 - David Broyles patents 50 acres on Cassia Creek, Washington Co., Tenn., near Simeon Broyles & Michael Capps. [4]
1814...1819 - Simeon is taxed for approximately 175 acres. Washington Co., Tenn.
1850 - He is listed in the Washington Co., Tenn. census. He gives his birthplace as Virginia. If this is so, then Matthias didn't get to Tennessee quite as early as has been assumed. His wife's age is given as 56, but this is clearly incorrect, being in error by 10 years or more.
27 Mar 1852 - Simeon makes his will, Washington Co., Tenn., Wife Mary. Son Archibald to have land where we live adjacent James and Alexander Broyles and others. Five daughters: Elizabeth (Brooks H. Bell), Sally (William Blackburn), Evy (Jacob Broyles), Eleanor (Nathaniel Broyles), Polly Ann (John Mauk). Sons Jesse, Jefferson, and Jacob to have their portion. He appoints his son Archibald his executor. wit: W.H. Smith, James M. Mauk.[5]
1860 - He and Mary are listed in the census of Washington Co., Tenn. Her age is given here as 78, which is much closer to the truth.
Apr 1875 - The will is probated.[6]
