Biography
Ludwig "Louis" was born about 1798 and christened on February 5, 1799. He immigrated to the US in the mid-1830s, settling first in New York, then in Ohio. He was a baker. He and his wife Margaret had seven children. He fought in the Civil War for the Union as an aging man, enlisting in December 1861 in Columbus, OH, and was discharged just under a year later in St. Louis, MO for disability from chronic rheumatism. Louis remained at the home for disabled volunteer soldiers in Ohio until his death, but was on "furlough" at his son's house in Buffalo when he passed away in 1877.
