Samuel Bryant was born on February 6th, 1653/54 in Scituate, Plymouth Colony, the son of John Bryant and Mary Lewis Bryant. [1]
Samuel was mentioned in the 1684 Will of his father, John Sr.:
"I give & bequeath my lot of land near Barstow's tree at grassie pond to my two sons Samuel Briant & Daniel Briant to be equally divided between my two said sons..."[2]
Samuel joined the forces of Joseph Sylvester in 1690 against the French held possessions of Port Royal and Quebec, Canada. In May of that year the forces had been able to surprise and take the fort at Port Royal. In October 1690 they returned to attack Quebec with the hope of seizing Quebec, the capital of New France. [3] Joseph's company included sixteen from Scituate. They joined forces with those of Sir William Phips (or Phipps). [4] Joseph Sylvester and many of his men, including Samuel Bryant, were killed in the campaign.
The administration of Samuel's estate started 3rd of March, 1690/91, with his brother John Bryant being an administrator.[5] His inventory was taken on 16 February 1690/91 and included wages for the Canada Expedition.[6] No wife or children are mentioned the brief probate papers.
