Her birthplace is Ohio, according to the 1870 Census. Subsequent records cite Indiana, but since she was living in Darke County, Ohio, in 1870, and she and all her assumed siblings were said to be born in Ohio, it seems likely that the more contemporaneous record is accurate. ^[2] Her assumed parents were both born in South Carolina, USA.
