Biography

William was born in Canada West (Ontario) on 28 Oct 1854,^[1] the son of Nicholas Butson^[2][3] and Mary Adams. His mother passed away about 1861. William (age 7) was living in East Whitby, Canada West (Ontario) in the household of William Wage, near some of his relatives including his widowed father and paternal grandparents.^[4]

William (age 26) married Mary Fawcett (age 20) on 11 February 1881 in Mitchell, Perth, Ontario.^[2] They lived in Logan Township, Perth, Ontario.^[5] They had a daughter, Mary who was born on 3 Jul 1882.^[6]

His wife, Mary passed away on July 13th at age 21, ten days after the birth of daughter, Mary.^[7] Their daughter, Mary passed away on Aug 16th at 6 weeks.^[8]

William (age 31) married Maggie (Margaret) A Fawcett (age 21) on 1 Dec 1886 in Brucefield, Huron, Ontario.^[3] Their children were:

• Lindsay Alva Butson, born on 19 Jul 1895.^[11][12]

William's two wives, Margaret and Mary, were first cousins.
