Biography

Philomène was the daughter of Ignace Cantin and Desanges Gingras. She was born 18 August 1839 in a settlement on the Sainte-Anne River (in modern-day Québec), which would later be called St-Raymond after the parish's official establishment in 1844. She was baptized 29 August 1839 in nearby Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier. Her godparents were her paternal aunt and uncle, Joseph Cantin and Flavie Vézina.^[1]

Along with her parents and six surviving younger siblings, Philomène was listed on the 1851 Census of Canada for St-Raymond.^[2]

Philomène was fourteen years old when she died 6 January 1854. She was buried the next day in St-Raymond.^[3]
