Jonah Cator was born on 9 December 1661. He was the son of John Cator.
He married Sarah Browne, daughter of Thomas Browne, on 23 March 1686.

Jonah Cator was a glovemaker in Ross-on-Wye. His son John the Elder became a timber merchant, and grandsons and descendants forged commercial and real estate empires, and eventually connections to present day English royalty.
