George Edward was born in 1891. He was the son of Edward Chase and Eliza Margaret Allen.
From Marton, George served in the Army during World War I, Service number 69573. A wheelwright in civilian life, he embarked 23 April 1918 from Wellington, arriving into Southampton, Hampshire 18 July 1918 aboard HMNZT 102 the "Willochra". He was a Private with the 36th Reinforcements, and served with the New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 2nd Battalion A Company of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
He was Killed in Action, 8 October 1918 at the 2nd Battle of Le Cateau, in France and is buried at the Anneux British Cemetery, Nord, France -- grave ref IV. C. 22
