Nancy Cheatham was born August 15, 1810, a daughter of Littleberry Cheatham. Nancy was married three times and had children born of each of her marriages. Her first husband was _____ Bishop. They became the parents of:
Nancy's first husband died prior to and around 1833, Nancy married Joseph Bradley. Joseph was a widower, older than Nancy and had nine children from his first marriage. In January, 1834, Joseph was appointed as Mary's guardian. The filing included an "amount due the minor" of $270 and a credit for sixth months interest, suggesting that Joseph had become acted as her guardian since about July 1, 1833. Joseph filed annual statements for Mary E. Bishop from 1835 to 1838. He died in 1839, leaving a Will dated February 25, 1839 and proved in September 1839. Children of Nancy and Joseph are:
After her second husband's death, Nancy married Charles W. Beaumont, who purchased leather goods at the sale of Joseph's estate, held in December, 1841. [1] Nancy dissented from Joseph's Will, which left her use of his plantation for the remainder of her widowhood. The local court agreed, and one third of Bradley's 310 acre plantation was deeded to Nancy, along with a one-twelfth share of the personal estate. [2] Children of Nancy and Charles are:
Charles W. Beaumont died circa 1846, and in late 1848, Nancy moved with her eldest daughter, Mary (Bishop) Hooper, and Nancy's four Bradley and Beaumont children to Tuscumbia, Franklin county, Alabama, to be near her father, Littleberry Cheatham. [3]
In the 1850 census of Franklin county, Alabama, Nancy is found living next door to her brother-in-law, Joseph Albert Guy. Her daughter, Mary, now aged 21, was enumerated not far away as the wife of Burrell Hooper. In the 1880 Census, Nancy Beaumont, now aged 65, is living in Colbert county, Alabama, next door to her widowed daughter-in-law, Kate Beaumont, widow of Richard Cheatham Beaumont and Kate's father Richard Halsey. Nancy died April 8, 1890, at the age of 79 years and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, in Tuscumbia, Colbert county, Alabama. There is a photograph of her headstone on her Find A Grave memorial. [5] (See notes)
Nancy's maiden name is not on her Find A Grave memorial and her memorial is not attached to any of her children, except "R.C.Beaumont," who is also buried in the Oakwood cemetery. Suggestions for additions to the memorial have been sent to the Find A Grave memorial manager. jg Nov 4, 2020
