John Clafton was born about 1852 in Ossett, Yorkshire, England, and was baptised 22nd Aug 1852 at South Ossett, Christ Church, son of James Clafton and Mary Wilby.[1][2]

On 7th Apr 1861, aged 9, he was a Scholar and living with his birth family at Denton Lane, Ossett, Yorkshire. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[2]

On 2nd Apr 1871, aged 19 and unmarried (although about to be), he was a Cloth Weaver and living with his birth family at Denton Lane, Ossett, Yorkshire. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[3]

In 1871, aged 19 and a bachelor, he married Sarah Ann Gawthorpe at South Ossett, Christ Church. He was a Weaver. His father was James Clafton, Weaver.[4]

On 3rd Apr 1881, aged 29 and widowed, he was a Power Loom Tuner and living with his birth family at Park Square, Ossett, Yorkshire. Also living with the family was John William Clafton, John’s son from his first wife, Sarah Ann. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[5]

In 1883, aged 31 and widowed, he married Mary Ann Killingbeck at Dewsbury, All Saints. He was a Power Loom Tuner and his father was James Clafton, Clothier.[6]

On 5th Apr 1891, aged 39, head of house and married to Mary Ann, he was a Power Loom Tuner and living with his wife & blended family at 1 Park Square, Ossett, Yorkshire. Also living with the family were John William Clafton, John’s son from his first marriage to Sarah, and Walter Killingbeck, Mary’s son from prior to her marriage to John. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[7]

On 31st Mar 1901, aged 49, head of house and married to Mary Ann, he was a Weavers Overlooker and living with his wife and ever growing family in Ossett, Yorkshire. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[8]

On 2nd Apr 1911, John Clafton, aged 59, head of house and married to Mary Ann (49), was a Warpdresser (Cotton) and living with his wife, remaining children Florence (26), George (22), Nelly (20), Ernest (11) and granddaughter Alice (1) at 70 Broomhill Terrace, Warwick Road, Batley, Yorkshire. His birthplace was Ossett, Yorkshire.[9]

John Clafton, born about 1852, died about 1923, aged 71, and his death was registered in Q1/1923 at Dewsbury, Yorkshire.[10]
