John was born on 28 February 1912, the son of Mary (Twist) Close (1869-1946) and John Henry Parkinson (1880-1925). No record of a marriage between the parents has been found. ^[1][2] He married Eleanor Yates on 21 December 1940 at St Peter, Halliwell ^[3]and their marriage was registered in Bolton, Lancashire, England. At the time of the marriage John was described as a warehouseman of 30 Horrocks St Bolton.

He died in January 2000 in Bolton. ^[4]
