Biography

Miles was born in 1833 in Ky. He is said to be the son of Joseph B. "Bo" Collard and Sarah (possibly Chitwood).

He married Martha Jane Hughes (1841–1910) on 23 Jul 1857 in Independence Co., Ark.[1] Their children were[2][3][4]

Eliza Emma (1857-1897; m. Holt and Self)

Joseph T. (1859-1870)

John Jefferson (1862-1957; m. Martin and Burgess)

Mattie Ellen (1869-1953; m. Hicks)

(daughter) P. C. (1872-1900)

(daughter) L. M. (1875-1900)

(son) W. N. (1879-1900)

and up to five other children who were born and died between 1857 and 1900.[5]

In 1860, Miles and Martha Jane were in Lamar Co., Tex., where Miles was a house carpenter.[6] In 1861, he seems to have returned to Independence Co., Ark., to enlist in the Confederate Army. He was a Private in the 17th and 21st Arkansas Infantries.[7] He returned to Lamar Co. after the war, and he was working there as a carpenter in 1870.[8] By 1880, he was listed as a farmer,[9] as well as in 1900.[10]

He passed away in 1915 and was buried in West Post Oak Cemetery, in Belk, Lamar Co.[11]
