It seems likely that son Charles married his cousin, the daughter of Mary Congrove, likely John's sister.

on 1870 census, the next house has the family of Abram Congrove, Sarah(probably wife) and children Fannie B(5) and William (2), also the age of John is 36 which is visible in the original, on the extract he is listed as 30
