From the Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 28 Aug 1935:

"Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Longan of Peoria are visiting their daughter, Mrs. T. A. Captain, and family. They visited last week with their other daughters, Mrs. Dorris [sic] Bluejacket and Mrs. Em Simpson." [1]

From the Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 10 Jan 1939:

"Mrs. Alta Graham of Peoria and son, Armel [sic] Graham and family, Mrs. T. A. Captain of No. 5 district, Mrs. Lucy Stoner of Peoria district, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Longan of Peoria town and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Simpson were all called to the bedside of their mother and grandmother, Mrs. Eliza Longon [sic], who is critically ill at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Doris Bluejacket." [2]

Note that there is no mention of Eliza's husband, John Longan. There is a conflict on his death date that needs more research to be resolved.

From the Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 28 February 1939:

"Mrs. Finley and Mrs. Charles Fine are unimproved. Andy Wyrick remains about the same. Rev. Hiram Scott is ill at his home. Mrs. Bessie Sparlin is reported very ill. Mrs. J. B. Longan is no better. Many people are complaining of severe colds." [3]

From the Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 08 August 1939:

"R. L. Clay, Mrs. C. P. Roberts, Mrs. J. B. Longan, Mrs. Bessie Sparlin, and Mrs. Henry Harmon are still unimproved." [4]

Eliza passed away 21 November 1939.[5]

Her funeral was the next day, 22 November 1939. From the Miami News-Record (Miami, Oklahoma), 27 November 1939:

"Funeral rites were held Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the No. 6 Community house at 2:30 p. m. for Mrs. J. B. (Grandmother) Longan, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 86, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. L. Bluejacket, following a year's illness. The Rev. James Miller of Quapaw officiating. The No. 6 singing class in charge of music. Mrs. Ralph Johnson at the piano. Pallbearers were R. L. Clay, Claud Hollandsworth, Clyde Bluejacket, Sam Richardson, Alfred Hollandsworth, and Leroy Clay. Burial was made in the Wyandotte cemetery. Lane funeral home was in charge." [6]

Note that the obituary states that Marshall Longan is a son, but further evidence has been revealed that he is the grandson of Eliza and John. See the profile for Marshall for more information.

Eliza (Cook) Longan, obituary.[5]

She is buried in Wyandotte Indian Cemetery, Wyandotte, Oklahoma.[7] Her gravestone shows a death year of 1941 for her and 1939 for her husband, John Bowles Longan. But it is suspected that the gravestone was put in place a few years later and the years were accidentally swapped. More research is needed.

John B. & Eliza Longan, gravestone.
