Biography

Gideon was born c.1815 in Ireland,^[1] son of Christopher Corneile and Julia Ann.^[2]

He emigrated to Canada before c.1837, when he married Ruth Gifford.^[1] They were the parents of :

1. James b.c.1838 ^[1]
2. Elizabeth b.c.1840 ^[1]
3. Julian[ne] b.c.1842 ^[1]
4. Ruth b.c.1844 ^[1]
5. Gideon b.c.1847 ^[1]
6. Mary b.c.1849 ^[1]

1851 : In Ekfrid, Middlesex, Ontario : Gideon Corneil, farmer (age 37, b. Ireland) with (presumed) wife Ruth (age 35, b. Upper Canada) and children James (13), Elizabeth (11), Julian (9), Ruth (7), Gideon (4) and Mary (2), all b. Upper Canada. The family's religion is given as Baptist.^[1]

Gideon married (2nd) Jessie McLaughlin (nee Rankin) in Canada in 1885.^[2]

Marriage record in 1868 for Gideon's daughter, Mary names her mother as Ruth Gifford.
