Biography

Betsy Corsett/Cossit - daughter of Samuel Corsett and Ann Unknown - was born in 1806 in Massachusetts.

Betsy married Thaddeus Alvord in 1852 in Utah Territory. Although she and Thaddeus did not have children, she may have mothered the five daughters and one son from his last marriage; however, only Thaddeus and Betsy are listed in the 1860 U.S. census, no children.

Thaddeus crossed the plains in 1849 with his family, and arrived in Salt Lake Valley in September 1849. He lived in the Old Fort, 6th Ward, some two years. On the 5th of February 1851, his wife died, leaving five sons and one daughter. He afterwards moved into the 19th Ward.

In the fall of 1853, he married Betsey Cosset [Corset]; and in June, 1866, he moved to North Ogden. On the 17 of May, 1873, he was ordained a Patriarch, under the hands of Priests Young and Wells, and five of the Twelve Apostles.
