Biography

Augustus Leonard Creecy was born in Washington, DC on July 8, 1885 to William Beauregard Creecy and Lillie May King.

The 1900 census shows Augustus and brother William(b. about 1887) were both born in DC. As noted in the next census, the boys had a sister Elsie, born about 1887. This home was located at 1337 H St., NE Washington, DC.

One page over in the 1900 record, it is shown that uncle Edward, born about 1859 in North Carolina, is living just a couple houses away with his family, at 1363 H St, NE, DC. Uncle Edward's wife Eugenia(?hard to read census), and children William 1886, Mary 1888, Christian 1890, Thomas 1892, Judson 1894.

The 1910 census shows Augustus has married Olive Jordan, and has moved out on his own. Several relatives are living in their home. Augustus' sister Elsie Creecy Wills, her husband James G. Wills, their daughter Dorothy(b.1908), and their son James G Jr(1909) are present. Also in the home is Olive's sister Irene Jordan.

There is a World War I draft card for Augustus dated September 12, 1918. In that record his wife Olive E. Creecy is noted. They were still at 1337 H St., NE, Washington, DC.

The 1920 census of DC shows Augustus and Olive living with Augustus' father William. It is also shown that Augustus and Olive have two children by this time; Alma J. born about 1911, and Leonard L., born about 1913. Home still 1337 H St., NE, Washington, DC.

Brother William is also living with the father. William married Margaret H (?), and they had a daughter Marcia H Creecy, born about 1919.

In 1930, still in Washington, DC, Augustus is head of home again, with spouse Olive. Children Alma, Leonard, and youngster Anne Ladorne(1926) in their home. Father William Beauregard Creecy living with them, and Olive's brother Joseph A. Jordan also in the home, located at 7319 12th Street, nw, DC. Augustus is noted as the owner of a gas station, his father William as a paper salesman.

1940 census shows Augustus, Olive, Anne Ladorne, and lodger Elvera(?) Apitz.

On April 27, 1942, Augustus registered for the 4th draft for World War II. This record confirms birth date, same address(7319 12th ST nw DC), and gives confirmation of Olive's maiden name, Jordan. At this time Augustus is working for Eastern High School; 17th and E. Capitol St. Washington, DC.
