James Creek was born in Essex, England.

James Creek was born about 1852 in Essex, England, the son of William Creek (1807-1891) and Mary Ann Wright (1810-1891). [1]

Emigration to Australia. Departure from Plymouth, arriving Portland, Colony of Victoria on 5th September 1855.

Marriage. On 1st July 1873, Phoebe married James Creek in a Presbyterian service at Dimboola, Victoria, Australia. James said he was born in Essex, while Phoebe gave her birthplace as Port Fairy. [2]

They had nine children.

The three brothers, Jasper, William and Dave Baker, all married Creek sisters. Folklore has it that their 4th brother Henry (Harry) would have also married a Creek sister but there were no more girls in the family.

OBITUARY
Still another member from the ranks of the Wimmera's pioneers, Mr James Creek, passed away on Sunday at his home in David street at the age of 78 years. About three weeks ago the late Mr Creek became seriously ill and had to take to bed. He arrived in Australia from Essex, England, when four years old with his parents. He lived in South Australia for 17 years, then came to Victoria where he settled on the land at Lower Norton. About years ago years he retired and came to live at Horsham. He leaves a widow and a family of four sons and three daughters, to whom deepest sympathy has been extended. They are James (Lockhart, NSW), John (Warracknabeal) Alfred (Lower Norton), ,William (Lockhart, NSW), Phoebe (Mrs J Baker, Goroke), Mary (Mrs W Baker, Haven) Louisa (Mrs D Baker, Dooen). Two daughters (Susan and Emma) are deceased. Mrs M Smith, of Railway avenue, Horsham, is a sister and the late Mr Thos. Creek of Roberts avenue was a brother. The funeral took place at Horsham Cemetery yesterday. The coffin-bearers were Messrs. E. Baker, N. Baker, E. Sawyer. T. Mott, J. Pearson, W. Jones. Mr. R.W. Payne conducted the service at the graveside. Messrs Weight & Sons had charge of the arrangements.
