Biography

Birth

A baby Charles Dadson was born to Charles and Suzannah Dadson in 1843 but died soon after. His parents had a second child, who was born in 1845, and this child was also named Charles.

Marriage

Charles was married to Miss Francis Bowkett on 10th March 1874 at Longford. It was a double wedding, with his brother John marrying a sister of Charles's bride.

Cornwall Chronicle (Launceston, Tas. : 1835 - 1880), Monday 23 March 1874, reported on page 2:

"MARRIAGES
DADSON—BOWKETT. — On the 10th March, at Christ Church, Longford, by special licence, by the Rev J.M. Norman, incumbent of Cressy and Lake River, Charles, eldest son of the late Charles Dadson, to Frances, fourth daughter of J Bowkett of Harwick Vale.
DADSON—BOWKETT.— On the 10th March, at Christ Church, Longford, by special licence, by the Rev J.M. Norman, incumbent of Cressy and Lake River, John, second son of the late Charles Dadson to Harriett, second daughter of J. J Bowkett of Harwick Vale."[2]

Death

Charles passed away in 1936.

Advocate (Burnie, Tas. : 1890 - 1954), Friday 3 January 1936, reported on page 2:

NONAGENARIAN'S DEATH.
Mr. C. Dadson, Upper Burnie Mr. Charles Dadson, Upper Burnie, died early yesterday morning at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr. V. Howard, Federal street, at the age of 92. Born of English parents at Muddy Plains, in the Tamar Valley, the late Mr. Dadson spent most of his life as foreman of a number of large sheep and stock stations in the North, and 15 years ago went to live at Upper Burnie. Despite his great age he was active, and enjoyed good health until Boxing Day, when he suffered a stroke, from which he did not recover. Sixty-two years ago he married Miss Francis Bowkett at Longford, and he leaves a family of five sons and two daughters. They are Messrs. Charles (New Zealand), Fred (Launceston), George (Upper Burnie), Jim (Castra) and Len (Mole Creek), and Mesdames V. Dean (Myrtle Bank) and V. Howard (Upper Burnie). One son, Mr. Harry Dadson, was killed at the war, and three daughters, Misses Kate Florence and Hilda Dadson, predeceased their father. The funeral will take place at the Wivenhoe cemetery at 3.30 this after-noon."[3]

Advocate (Burnie, Tas. : 1890 - 1954), Saturday 4 January 1936, reported on page 2:

"Late Mr. Charles Dadson.
The funeral of Mr. Charles Dadson, of Upper Burnie, was well attended yesterday, the Rev. F. J. McCabe officiating at the house and graveside. The chief mourners were Messrs. George, Len and Jim (sons), Mesdames R. Dean and P. Howard (daughters), Messrs. P. Howard and H. Hall (sons-in-law), and Mesdames G. Dad-son and J. Dadson (daughters-in-law). The carriers were Messrs. J. Crowe, E. Polson, A. Rogers and H. Dudman. The attendance was a representative one, and there were many floral tributes."[4]

Burial

His remains were interred at Wivenhoe Cemetery, Burnie, in the Old Church of England Section, plot A1. The inscription on the headstone is as follows:

"In Loving Memory of /
OUR DEAR FATHER /
CHARLES DADSON /
DIED 2ND JANUARY 1936 /
AGED 93 YEARS. /
A REST. /[5]

Be it Known that CHARLES DADSON late of Upper Burnie in Tasmania, Pensioner, died on the 2nd day of January 1936 At Upper Burnie aforesaid: And be it further Known that on the 16th day of January 1936 the last Will and Testament Of the said deceased was proved in the Supreme Court of Tasmania and that at the date hereunder written administration all the estate which by law devolves to and vests in the personal representative of the said deceased was granted by the aforesaid Court to VICTOR HOWARD of Upper Burnie in Tasmania Labourer a son-in-law of the said deceased and FRANCES HOWARD wife of the said VICTOR HOWARD of Upper Burnie aforesaid daughter of the said deceased the Executor and Executrix named in the said Will.
Dated this 27th day of January 1936
