John Wesley Daniels was born the 5th of February 1840, in Hampshire England. John was the son of George Daniels and Mary Franks. Note: John's tombstone gives his date of birth as the 22nd September 1829, this date is incorrect. [1]
John was two years old when his parents and other siblings sailed from Liverpool England on the ship Berwick for the United States and the port of New Orleans. [2]
John, age 10, appears in the 1850 Federal census in Clay county, Illinois in the household of Jesse Williams. (Note: there is no known family relationship with Jesse Williams who is listed in the census as being born in North Carolina.)[3]
John, age 23, appears as a Farm Hand in the 1860 Federal census in Will county, Illinois in the household of John Kearney.[4]
John married Isabella Kearney on the 30th June 1861 in Will county, Illinois. Isabella was under age and attached to the marriage license is letter of consent to the marriage signed by Isabella's parents.[5]
John enlisted in the Civil War in 1863, in the Union Army as a private with Co. C 13th Michigan Infantry.[6]
John appears in the 1870 Federal census in DeKalb county, Illinois. John's household appears as follows: John age 37, occupation Farmer; Isabell age 24; Mabel age 8, and Henrietta age 6.[7]
John appears in the 1880 Federal census in DeKalb county, Illinois.
John's household appears as follows: John age 50; Isabella age 36; Mabel age 18; Henrietta age 17; florence G. age 8; and Flora C. age 3.[8]
John appears in the 1895 Iowa State Census in Cerro Gordo county, Iowa.
John is listed in the household of Henry King. John's age is given as 65; occupation is given as Laborer and his religion is listed as being a Universalist.[9]
John appears in the 1900 Federal census in Deuel county, Nebraska. John's household appears as follows: John age 70, occupation listed as gardner; daughter Ettie age 37, occupation laundress; and granddaughter Ethel M. age 1.[10]
John appears in the 1910 Federal census in Garden county, Nebraska in the household of Amos O. Meeker. John's age is given as 80 and his occupation is listed as servant, farm laborer.[11]
John, age 90, appears in the 1920 Federal census in Fall River county, South Dakota as a patient in the Battle Mountain Sanitarium. The Battle Mountain Sanitarium was a hospital for U.S. Military Veterans.[12]
John died the 26th March, 1922, in Lewellen, Garden county, Nebraska. John was buried in Ash Hollow Cemetery, Lewellen, Garden county, Nebraska.
