Biography

Henry Franklin David was born on 11 Jan 1781 in Orange, Orange, Virginia, USA. Henry is the Son of Peter David and Mary White. Donna Thompson, Tuesday, March 17, 2015.

Henry David was a direct descendant of the Huguenots who emigrated from France by way of England in the early 1700's and received land near present day Richmond. Henry moved to Georgia from Orange County Virginia probably around 1790. Henry Franklin David was an active minister in early Franklin County and appears in many marriage records of the time. Henry married Pillina David (his cousin, daughter of Isaac David (1756-1840) and her name is often listed as Pillina David David.

Henry and Pillina had a first-born child Henry Franklin David, Jr. (1805-1887). Note that Isaac Morrisette David (second child of Henry and Pillina) married Artemesia (Morgan?) and they named a child Pillina White David. Georgia Microfilm Archives - Franklin County Marriage Book 1805-1826 [1] This source lists Henry David as a Minister of Gospel (M.G.) performing many of the ceremonies in 1817-1826.

Henry is buried in present-day Banks County, Georgia in the David Family Cemetery and his grave is the oldest marked grave there. He most likely was the namesake for the Militia District known as Captain David's District, still today called David's District. His house, probably built sometime between 1820 and 1840, was disassembled and relocated to a site in North Carolina around 2002 by a former professor at the University of Georgia.

the marriage record cited says Madison County 1800. Madison County did not exist in 1800. Can you update the source citation? The record I have is a copy of the Henry David family bible, which says 10 Jan 1804. Either way, it wasn't in Madison County.

Henry F. David probably had three children (possibly more). The marriage date in this record says 10 Jan 1800 in Madison County, but the source says Franklin County. I am correcting that.

Based on a reading of James H. David's will in Banks County p.515-6 January 1867 (probated Feb. 1878), it seems clear that James H. David was the son of Pillina White David and Henry David. If his DOB was really 27 Aug 1799, then he was 4 1/2 months old when his parents were married. Isaac's son named James H. David creates confusion, but is clearly not the same person. Lastly, if James was born 1799/1800, then it seems odd that the next child Henry Junior was born after a gap of five years. Then there is another gap between him and Isaac M. David born 1809. It stands to reason that there were two other children who died young, perhaps around 1803 and 1807. In the David family cemetery where Henry, Isaac M. and others are buried, there are three unmarked graves inside a picket fence and the earliest marked grave is 1832, that of Isaac M. David's son Joseph. It could be that Henry had three other children who died and those are the ones inside the picket fence.
