Nelson married Indiana Caroline Payne, Feb, 8, 1853 and divorced two years later, May 4, 1855. It is believed that Nelson died Nov. 13, 1856 and is buried in the lawn of Salem M. E. Church, Taylor Twnship, Owen Co., IN. This belief is supported by a cousin who reported finding a fragment of a headstone with the letters NEL. at this former church yard.
