Mary Delahunty Mahony was born about 1780, maybe in France according to the death certificate of her son, Kean Mahony. She was most likely of Irish descent; Many Irish Catholic military lived in France at this time period. Her father may have possibly served in the military service in France when she was born or he was conducting business in France. These are all hypothetical based on what her one granddaughter wrote as her birthplace. ^[1]

Research Notes

Research has not been done on this line. It's not certain if she is from a Kerry family. However, she had, at least, three children by John Mahony, born and baptized in Tralee.^[2]

No further research has been done specifically on her or her husband at the Mahony residency at Tralee, i.e. Blennerville, after the children's baptisms. It is not known if they relocated to England or other parts of Kerry or Ireland or if she had more children. Wills, directories and property records needs to be searched.

Not conclusive without further evidence but Maggie N. and her sister, and her son have genetic matches with the "Mooncoin" Delahuntys. Check Marian Delahunty at Marian Delahunty. Marian baptised 28th Dec 1779 at probably at Curraghmartin ^{[citation needed]}, dau of John Delahunty and Catherine Walsh.

The Delahunty Surname

Origins of the Delahunty surname is supposedly rooted in the Ely O'Carroll "country" of the former Offally territory of North Tipperary and Kilkenny. It is not a "Kerry" surname. How John Mahony of Tralee met and married Maria Delahunty has not been solved. However, Delahunty is considered a Gaelic surname.
