Jesse Young Demaree was born in 1838 in Shiloh, in Union Township, Johnson County Indiana, the son of George W. Demaree and Sarah Young Demaree. He enlisted in the 7th Indiana Infantry, âFâ Co. under David Holmes, Sept. 13, 1861. He mustered out August 23, 1862 from wounds to his leg recieved in a battle at Winchester Va. He married Mary Melvina Miller in 1865, with no children. He married second, Margaet Ann Winchester, daughter of John M. and Harriet Winchester in 1872. There were eight children from that marriage. Jesse Young spent the rest of his life on his farm. He had a interest in botany and was quite sucessfull as a farmer. He had a stroke while feeding his stock and was paralyzed. When he did not come in the children found him lying in the orchard, unconcious. He never recovered.
