Biography
Elizabeth Malinda (Deveny) Henry was born about 1704 in Coleraine, County Londonderry, Ireland.
Elizabeth died on 9 Oct 1778 in Lancaster, Lancaster County, Province of Pennsylvania, aged about 73. She was buried in Saint James Episcopal Church Cemetery, Lancaster, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.[1]
Her known son was Capt. John Henry Jr. (1743–1777).
Research Notes
From Find a Grave Memorial: Elizabeth Deveny was a daughter of Hugh Deveny (of French Huguenot descent) and Mary Jenkins.
She married John Henry in 1728.
Mother of eight children.
Member of Saint James's Protestant Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
9 October 1778 — "Today the mother of William Henry died in her seventy-fifth year. Buried in Saint James's P. E. ch. yard. She was a friend to the poor and needy." (Moravian diary extract)
NOTE: Her surname was spelled inconsistently. In France, the spelling was likely De Vigny, which became Deveny in Northern Ireland and De Vinne(y) (etc.) in America.
John Henry and Elizabeth Deveny were the parents of the following children, all born in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
