Biography

Antonio S. "Anthony" Dileo was born on October 21, 1907 in Palazzo Adriano, Palermo, Sicilia, Italia to Rosalia Trizzino and Mariano Dileo. He remained in Italy until December 7, 1928 when he boarded the SS Presidente Wilson with his mother sailing from the Port of Palermo and arriving at the Port of New York on December 19, 1928.

He can be found in the 1930 US Census living in Rochester, Monroe, New York, USA with his parents at 433 N. Clinton Ave. It is possible that this they are renting from Rosalia's cousin as there are several other Italian families living in that same building and it is stated that one Frances Pecraro who was born in Italy is the owner of the building. Also, it should be noted that Antonio's grandmother, Rosalia's mother is Carmella Pecoraro. This is probably not a coincidence but it is possible that it is.

While I have not found anymore census data, I know that Anthony was alive during the 1940 US Census. In fact, he died just 4.5-5 years after it was taken. Anthony entered Camp Wheeler in Macon, Georgia, USA sometime between December 7. 1941 and December 1943 when he was sent overseas as part of the 327 glider infantry 101st airborne division. He was injured on June 11, 1944 in Normandy, France as part of the Battle of Normandy and would die just under a year later in Belgium during the Belgian portion of the Battle of the Bulge on January 4, 1945. This left his mother and father childless as he was the only known child of Rosalia Trizzino and Mariano Di Leo.

Anthony S Dileo is currently buried in Henri-Chapelle cemetery in Belgium.
