Biography
Earl was born in 1911. He is the son of Thomas Drane and Lena Irish.
Biography from funeral home memorial card: Earl Drane, age 85, of Broadus, Montana passed away at 7:10pm, August 14, 1996, with all of his children present in Miles City, Montana following a brief illness.
Earl was born to Thomas Marion and Lena Irish Drane in Jamieson, Keyapaha County, Nebraska, on May 27, 1911.
At an early age he came with his parents to Belle Fourche, South Dakota where Thomas Jr worked as a carpenter. Then on a homestead at Ridge, Montana. Earl carried mail between Alzada and Ridge as well as working on the family sawmill.
Earl married Hazel Christine Camper at the Congregational Church in Broadus on April 14, 1934, by the Reverend Max Webster. Their children are, Thelma Ann Richardson of Shell Rock, Iowa, Betty Jean Deibel of Wickenburg, Arizona, Carol Lambert of Hammond, Montana, Allen Earl Drane of Broadus, Montana and Larry David Drane of Billings, Montana.
They homesteaded in the Ranch Creek area. In 1936, they moved briefly to southern California and on to Portland, Oregon, They later returned to their homestead on Prairie Dog Creek near Biddle.
When Earl and Hazel were first married Earl raised colts for the Army and always enjoyed and kept a saddlehorse. He played baseball in his younger days, and later took up golf.
Earl was very much a family man. His children and grandchildren were the joy of his life. His soft smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten. He was preceded in death by Hazel, his wife for nearly 63 years, four sisters, two brothers and one grandchild.
He is survived by his sister, Francis Helen West of Rocky Point, Wyoming; all of his children, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
