William W Drinkwater was born in 1798 in South Carolina.

William purchased 78 acres in Lamar, Marion County, Alabama on 1 December 1826; signed by President John Quincy Adams.[1]

William purchased 40 and 20/100 acres in Grenada, former Chocchuma, Mississippi, on 10 May 1848; signed by President James K Polk.[2]

William was enumerated in the 1830 Marion County, Alabama, census as having a household of 5 free white persons and 30 slaves.[3]

William was enumerated in the 1840 Tallahatchie, Mississippi, census as having a household of 8 free white persons and 48 slaves: 25 male slaves and 23 female slaves.[4][5]

William was enumerated in the 1850 Tallahatchie, Mississippi, census as having a household of William, 50; Susannah, 55; Sarah Hollis, 12; Mahial Hollis, 35, overseer; and Green Holloday, 19, overseer.[6] image 38 of 51

Estate of Mr. W. Drinkwater Decd
In the matter of the administration of the Estate of Mr. W. Drinkwater decd to the Venerable Alexander M. Bullock Judge of the Probate Court of Tallahatchie County, Mississippi.
The petition of Susan Drinkwater and Reuben Fleming resident of the said county respectfully shows that William W. Drinkwater late of said county departed this life the 9th day of April last leaving no will so far as your petitioners knows or believes. That said intestate died ___ and possesed of a small personal estate consisting of debts due him evidenced by note and open accounts all of said personal estate being estimated to worth not exceeding ___ hundred dollars.
That your petitioners - Susan Drinkwater is the widow and your Petitioner Reuben Fleming is the son of said Susan Drinkwater ___ your petitioners believing that said Estate should be immediately administered for the present collection of assets by virtue of their right under the statute they therefore pray that your Honor will grant letters of administration to them in the premises upon qualifying themselves according to law and the direction of this court. Your petitioners beg ___ to offer to the consideration of your Honor Hugh L ___ and Alesmonde G Murphey as securities upon their bond and as in duty bound your petitioners will ever pray this July 13th A.D. 1852. Sworn to and or ____ before me this July 13th 1852.[8]
