Biography

Richard was born about 1565. He was the son of Arnold Drinkwater and Jane Gleave. He passed away in 1636.

Will of Richard Drinkwater of Warburton, yeoman written 1632, names "my sister the wife of Richard Steele", "my niece the wife of Peter Steele", children of Richard Steele - Peter, Gilbert and their sisters, Clemence, Margery, Ales and Ellen, children of Peter Steele - Danse, Anne, Richard and Rebecca, nephew Richard Drinkwater the younger of Warburton, yeoman

Research Notes

I beieve that the book "The Family of Drinkwater" made an error on page 52.^[1] I believe it skips a generation. Arnold Drinkwater of Bent in the parish of Warburton, Cheshire married Jane Gleave of Heatley. It lists their children as Richard born about 1563; Danse, wife of Richard Steele and Arnold.

This Richard (the above profile) should be listed has the son of Arnold. The Richard that is listed is I believe Arnolds grandson, probably born about 1590, married in 1614 and died in 1651.

The will of Richard Drinkwater the elder of Warburton yeoman written in 1632 (proved 1636) proves that he is the son of Arnold and Jane, as it names his "sister the wife of Richard Steele".^[2]

The executor of his will is his "nephew Richard Drinkwater the younger of Warburton, yeoman". (This Richard the younger is probably the one who married in 1614 and died 1651).

The will of Richard the elder also is witnessed by Arnold Drinkwater and Arnold Drinkwater, Jr. who are probably his brother and nephew.

The 1603 will of Peter Drinkwater (Drinkwater-227) of Grappenhall names his cousins Richard and Arnold Drinkwater of Warburton, who is most likely this Richard (and his brother), the sons of Arnold.
