Christiana had recently graduated from the University of Arizona with a business marketing degree. The 22-year-old was working for the Los Angeles Kings hockey team when she was gunned down during the Route 91 Harvest Festival on the Las Vegas Strip. [[1]]

August 7, 1995 - October 1, 2017 Christiana Mae Duarte, a recent graduate of the University of Arizona, entered into eternal life with our Lord on October 1, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Christiana was born on August 7, 1995 to parents Barbara Laird and Michael Duarte of Torrance, California. It was here that Christiana spent her formative years, attending Riviera Elementary School and First Lutheran School. In 2013 she graduated from South Torrance High School. In 2017, Christiana received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Arizona "U of A Bear Down". Throughout her college career, Christiana's intelligence, compassion, and hard work landed her internships with the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team, University of Arizona hockey team, Tucson Roadrunners hockey team, and the Merit Corporation. Christiana was also an ambassador for the Bud Light Corporation and belonged to the Sigma Kappa sorority. In pursuit of her career goal to work for a professional sports team after graduating college, Christiana was hired by two of Los Angeles' premier professional sports teams, the Rams and the Kings, where she was currently employed at the time of her passing. In addition to her work in the field of professional and college sports, Christiana was a prolific runner and athlete in her own right, as well as a singer with a beautiful voice. Her hobbies and interests also included a love for country music, dance with her family and her love of the beach. Christiana leaves behind her grieving parents Barbara Laird and Michael Duarte as well as her best friend and brother, Michael Duarte, Jr. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Artemio & Dolores Duarte and Gerald & Dorothy Laird. Her survivors also include a host of cousins, nieces, aunts, uncles, loving friends, and Godchildren Andrew and Kendal Gumbs.
The vigil prayer service was held on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 7:00p.m., at St. Lawrence Martyr Church located at 1940 S. Prospect Avenue, Redondo Beach, CA 90277. The funeral mass was held on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 10:00a.m., at St. Lawrence Martyr Church. The burial was immediately following the mass at Green Hills Cemetery, located at 27501 S. Western Avenue in Rancho Palos Verdes. A celebration of Christiana's life was held at the Redondo Beach Historic Library located at Veteran's Park, 309 Esplanade from 3:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family set up a memorial fund in Christiana's name. Donations were made to Michael Duarte. Published by Los Angeles Times on Oct. 17, 2017.
