Despite the fact that James was born James Durrell, his mother Esther Eliza's husband John Durrell had died in 1851, two years before James' birth. In the 1861 Census James is shown as being William Munford's son and has taken William's surname, whereas his brother John Durrell is shown as being his step-son. So, it can be concluded that James was William's biological son. He disappears after 1871.
