John was born in 1837. He was the son of Isaac Edes and Lydia Stevens. [1][2]

In 1860 he was working as a blacksmith and living with his widowed sister. Phoebe in Shirland, Illinois. [3]

He married Amelia Fiske in 1862. [4]

Civil War

Shortly after his marriage, John enlisted with Company A, 74th Regiment, Illinois Infantry. He died of bronchitis on November 14, 1862, at a hospital in Lebanon, Kentucky. [5][6][7]
